Who we are

Skillsy was formed on a simple idea – why do industry and government leaders have access to information and connections that may take someone several decades to build? If we are all in this together – isn’t there a fairer way?
To address this, we built a caring and inclusive community that provides educational and networking opportunities to current and future leaders. We worked with the most experienced public and private sector leaders, with a deep understanding of how industry works – to develop curated and interactive content for you.
We engage our partners – deeply experienced industry and government leaders – so that industry champions are in the room with you (virtually or in-person) – and provide you course content that may take you years, or decades, to understand.
Our in-person and virtual courses are delivered by industry champions. Our courses are highly practical and interactive – drawing on real world case studies to understand the issues and allowing you opportunities to build your industry community now.

Skillsy has been developed and led by preeminent individuals whose experience spans a wide array of areas including leadership, policy, philanthropy and business across a variety of sectors. Their combined skills and knowledge have been instrumental in forming the unique and high-quality aspects our courses are renowned for.

Clare Gardiner-Barnes

Facilitator

Clare has worked in government executive positions for over 20 years including in Queensland Education and was the CEO of the Department of Transport. Clare has worked as Head of Strategy, Planning and Innovation at Infrastructure NSW and as Deputy Secretary, Freight, Strategy and Planning at Transport for NSW. In these roles, Clare provided advice to government, transport and construction sectors on safety, funding priorities, planning, freight and national policy.Clare has held board positions at the NSW Telco Authority, Austroads, Roads Australia.   Clare is an advocate for diversity and inclusion, women in leadership and workforce flexibility.
   

Gino Dompietro

Facilitator

Gino Dompietro has over 25 years of infrastructure development and business consulting experience. He has guided and mentored local and international teams in the formulation and implementation of business improvement and growth strategies for a range of private and government clients and led hundreds of financial transactions and infrastructure projects in transport, power and energy, ICT and aviation. Gino routinely takes senior leadership roles in major infrastructure development and delivery projects, particularly in areas where technical, commercial, financial, and contracting strategy are a focus. After a long and successful career in a range of client facing roles in private industry, government and consulting, Gino is now working as a freelance advisor to major companies, focusing mainly on renewable energy and transportation-related projects and transactions.

Lauren Streifer

Facilitator and MC

Lauren Streifer is the Founder and CEO of Streifer&Co – A global CEO advisory and stakeholder engagement firm. Lauren has more than 15 years of experience working with global infrastructure companies and state and federal governments. She has extensive experience in the civil infrastructure, transport, engineering, international development and event management sectors. She is also a passionate MC and diversity campaigner.

Simon Leeper

Facilitator

Simon has worked in the construction industry for over 30 years. He commenced working on site in the UK as a Civil Engineer. After 10 years he relocated to Australia, completed a Project Management Masters and has since delivered due diligence and feasibility studies with consultants and design and construction of projects with contractors in Australia and Asia. Key roles include leading Samsung C&T Australia into joint venture teams to deliver 3 multibillion-dollar packages of the Westconnex motorway in Sydney. More recently Simon, as General Manager of Strabag Australia, has been focused on green energy projects including design and bidding on major pumped hydro schemes working with international teams.

Sonia Zavesky

Facilitator

Sonia was a former ABC journalist, presenter, local government reporter, NSW political reporter, and newsroom Chief of Staff. She is a mentor and facilitator with the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET). Her previous clients are Sydney Metro, Transport for NSW, Dept of Premier and Cabinet, NSW, Infrastructure Australia, Westconnex, Transurban, Western Sydney Airport, John Holland Group, and Port Authority of NSW.

Industry should be a level playing field, but we still have a long way to go. We democratise education by delivering content that may take you decades to learn the traditional way. We are also proud to have a strong focus on supporting marginalised groups through dedicated scholarships in partnership with our partner organisations.

To provide the best social, economic and environmental value to our communities, we need to work sustainably. The theme of sustainability features strongly throughout out courses, including within content and in presentations by high profile leaders who champion the cause!
